ABOUT GISMUN

On 24 October 1945, representatives of 50 countries met together to write the United Nations Charter a document that would forever change the way countries operated. From then on the world was a team that would work together, side by side to help save the world from itself. This is the essence of GIS MUN.

MUN has grown to become a strong aspect of GIS life. Since its introduction to the school in 2000 MUN has grown in size and influence, from a mere 15 students to over fifty, comprising of students from Form 3 to Upper 6. We have debated both locally (GHAMUN, SOSMUN) and internationally. It has taught many students the essentials for success; critical thinking, open-mindedness, and cooperation. It has aided many students in their development, teaching them about diplomacy, integrity, bravery, and debate over the course of its long GIS history. Delegates from GIS have gone on to become influential citizens of the world, some actually joining the UN. In Ghana International School MUN has always been a student activity, lead by students and taught by students. And as a result of this firm tradition, the GISMUN Conference is planned, designed and run by students.

SDG16

This conference we decided to focus on SDG 16: inspired by its holistic and humanitarian advances. Its parallels with the plights of the contemporary world drew our attention and so we had to base the framework of the conference around it. From human trafficking to reducing deaths in conflicts delegates should learn to embody an approach that treats all with fairness.
